When a student or staff member opens an AI tool on a managed device, the same principle as the enterprise product applies: trust IdP-verified sessions; stop the rest at the gate.

Writing-style and statistical “AI detectors” are unreliable. They produce false positives, put educators in an accusatory posture, and often cannot explain why a flag appeared. AI Data Shield takes a different approach: a teacher-facing signal grounded in actual usage evidence during a declared assignment window — not prose analysis.

The signal looks for text that was copy-pasted from a monitored AI platform into a Google Doc while a teacher-declared assignment window was active. It is provenance / paste-tracking for review — explicitly not writing-style or AI-detector analysis. That design choice aims to avoid the false-positive problems those tools create for students and teachers alike.

Teachers manually initiate a scan on a submitted Google Doc. There is no continuous surveillance of the writing process. The feature is scoped to Google Docs only; it does not imply coverage of Canvas, Classroom generally, Word, or other tools.

A flag informs a teacher–student conversation. It is not automatic proof of misconduct and not an automated penalty. Educators keep judgment: the signal supports an informed discussion about the work, rather than replacing professional discretion.

Student-related data is handled carefully as a design principle. Flags are limited to the assigned teacher and are not retained longer than needed to support that grading conversation — privacy first, without turning the marketing page into a compliance claim.

We believe students deserve clear expectations, and teachers deserve tools that respect their judgment. GenAI will keep changing how writing and learning happen.
